New Delhi: Former Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi was re-elected unanimously as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) in a CPP Meeting of the Party’s MP and newly elected MPs from the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha in the Central Hall of the Parliament House, New Delhi.
Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge proposed Smt. Sonia Gandhi’s name as the CPP Chairperson, and leaders Shri Tariq Anwar and Shri Gaurav Gogoi seconded it. The resolution was unanimously passed by the MPs at the meeting held in the Central Hall of Parliament.
Smt. Sonia Gandhi was last elected as head of Congress Parliamentary Party in last Lok Sabha and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in February 2024.
“... As members of the CPP, we have a special obligation to be watchful, vigilant and proactive in holding him and his new NDA government accountable. No longer can and should Parliament be bulldozed like it has been for a decade now. No longer will the writ of the ruling establishment be permitted to disrupt Parliament, whimsically mistreat members or push through legislation without due and proper consideration and debate...,” she said after being elected as the CPP Chairperson.
Earlier, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously urged Shri Rahul Gandhi to take on the mantle of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and he told the Party’s top brass that he will take a decision on it “very soon”.
